In a week that gave us new releases from J. Cole, Phonte, Domo Genesis, and Casey Veggies, you might have missed Azad RIght’s latest effort The Time Is Right. I waited a few days to post it because I wanted to give it some thorough listens, and I can honestly say I’m impressed. This is quality music. From start to finish you hear the passion and dedication Azad puts into each song. Even on the leaks leading up to the mixtape, like his relaxing summer jam “I’ll Be Around”, there’s very few wasted bars, a credit to his songwriting ability.

With seventeen songs there’s the risk of the listener getting bored or the music becoming repetitive, but neither is the case here. Every song seems to tackle a different topic and vibe, from the stoned out “Diesel” to the Pops praising “You Are Appreciated”. There’s no big name producers to note, but Jonatahan Marquez and Professor O do an excellent job of crafting the backdrops for Azad’s stories.
