The 5th annual Just Be Cool. Holiday Party was a huge success. Taking place at the Den on Sunset Blvd last Thursday, some of the DankLA crew was in attendance with our bros in Dime A Dozen. Shout out to JBC. for throwing a COOL function as we close out 2010 and get ready to shift gears into 2011. Below is a quick photo highlight of the night. Check out the guest appearances!

I meant to post this video when it dropped last week but somehow it got lost in the madness of the Holidays. The original version with Devin The Dude off of K.R.I.T.’s K.R.I.T. Wuz Here was already a dope song, but adding verses from Houston’s Killa Kyleon and Curren$y to the remix was like crumbling some hash on an already dank bowl of trees; it just takes the experience to a whole different level.

Look out for the Crew’s Top 10 albums and mixtapes of 2010 post later this week, where both Big K.R.I.T. and Curren$y’s names are sure to show up.
and out of my speakers, blared three new mixtapes all of them heaters.
Nipsey Hussle, Rick Ross and Jonny Shipes all got into the Holiday Spirit with the release of these early presents.

I was hoping December would bring the release of Nipsey’s debut album, South Central State Of Mind, but between label drama and the ever-present general industry bullshit the album wasn’t ready for the public. Instead, we get The Marathon, where Neighborhood Nip looks to return his name to the spotlight heading into 2011, which hopefully will bring the album the West has been waiting on.

I don’t post a whole lot of Ross’ music on here, but after multiple listens to Teflon Don the last six months or so, I have to applaud his hustle. He bounced back from being exposed as a correctional officer and withstood the onslaught of 50 Cent’s wrath, and in 2010 collaborated with some of rap’s biggest names on the way to being recognized as The Source’s “Man of the Year”. Ashes to Ashes has features from T.I., Ludacris, and Wiz Khalifa, and production from regulars Lex Luger, Boi-1da and The Inkredibles.

Cinematic Music Group boss Jonny Shipes was able to combine one of my favorite television shows, Curb Your Enthusiasm, with new music from Big K.R.I.T., Curren$y, Smoke DZA and others. As far as I’m concerned, Big K.R.I.T. was the best new artist of this year and his heavy involvement with this release make it a must-listen.

The holidays are quickly approaching and 2010 is coming to an end soon. 2011 is going to bring GREAT things: Detox, Carter IV, more DankLA and of course many more herbals!
A few photos from a sesh not too long ago, enjoy.
